Arum Lilies On Choc Cake

My attempt at having a rich chocolate cake with sugarcraft flowers!!

I was privileged to do a cake for a conference in Nainital and their requirement was a chocolate cake.
I decided to make arum lilies for the ocassion as white flowers would go well with a dark base.
The base cake was a rich truffle cake and the top tier was a mocha cake.
The arum lilies had tall stems which went through the top tier and reached the base cake as I thought that would look different.

People really liked the look of the cake and the taste as well...Finally its the taste which matters!!!!!!

  15. We call them calla lilies here in the States. They have a reputation of being very elegant and sophisticated. Many a bride has them added to her bouquet. Lovely presentation. You have amazing skill.

  16. You are right there Susan, it is also called calla lilies and you get them in purple and tangerine color also.
Somehow I really like the white ones with the slight green tinge..

  17. Nice to read your comment. Thanks for adding me. Those cakes look so very gorgeous! How is it possible that the cake in the middle is blue in color? Is it perhaps, you've used blueberries? I really want to make cakes like these someday:)

  18. Spicegirl, thanks for stopping by.
The middle tier that you see is a glass vase which has the stems of the lilies passing through and I had wrapped an arum lily around it..so there is no cake in the middle tier at all..may be coz of refection you saw that to be blue..No blueberries in this one...

  24. Hi swati,

Beautiful...I loved the concept...certainly innovative. What is your base cake like? I mean how is it able to support a vase and a cake on top of it? Is it coulded with marzipan and then topped with chocolate ganache? Also whats the detailing on the top cake? Sorry too many Qs.

Next time you should post pics once the cake is cut, to understand the texture and dimensions of your fab cakes. I wish I could taste it. i love chocolate besides sugar:))

    Keep it up..

  28. Thnaks Hulya for stopping by :)

Faery dear thanks thanks thanks..and looking forward to see the green orchids..will surely try !!

    Aparna..Love seeing you here !!
Am glad you asked so many questions..
The base cake was a truffle cake and had made a high cake so that it could take the weight of the top tier without sinking. After icing the bottom tier when it was nearly dry I placed a round mirror as a base for the top tier.
The top tier look differnt and nice isnt it!! Ya, had used a sunflower mold tin and then while icing I was careful to give the petal strokes with icing to give it a flower look. I finally finished with both the cakes with golden tear drops scattered around.

The lilies look great.I loved the contrast of the white lilies on the rich dark choclate background.
